Effect & Properties

Essential bergamot oil is used in aromatherapy for mental illnesses. The fresh, citrusy scent has a positive effect, especially in the case of depression, including winter depression caused by a lack of light. In addition, it should have a relaxing effect on the nerves and also provide relief for premenstrual symptoms. The antiseptic and expectorant properties are used therapeutically in diseases of the respiratory tract and tonsillitis. Bergamot oil also has an antispasmodic and digestive effect, so it can also be used for indigestion, colic and flatulence. It is also used successfully by therapists for viral skin diseases such as herpes or shingles. Bergamot oil has a strong top note and is one of the strengthening and constructive oils.

Bergamot oil as a room fragrance and in perfumery

As a room fragrance, the essential oil can have an encouraging, harmonizing and refreshing effect and is considered a ray of hope in a gloomy mood. In perfumery, bergamot oil contributes fragrance components to woody and resinous notes as well as floral, lavender, and fantasy scents. It is also a component of cologne and is used in many hair care products. In combination with a carrier oil such as almond or jojoba oil, antispasmodic massage oils can be prepared with bergamot oil, which have a positive effect on scar tissue, stretch marks or skin blemishes. Please note that essential oils such as bergamot oil are concentrates that should only be used diluted. For more information, see "Product Details - Notes". Our essential bergamot oil is to be used as a room fragrance. Put 5-8 drops of essential oil in the bowl filled with water in the aroma lamp or wet the aroma stone directly with it. In combination with other essential oils, reduce the amount as desired. 5-8 drops of bergamot peel oil in the fragrance lamp counteract the sinking of the mood, cheer up and bring us back into balance.

Origin of Bergamot - Citrus aurantiumbergamia - Southern Italy

The bergamot tree belongs to the citrus family (Citrus) and this to the rue family (Rutaceae). The bergamot was probably created from a cross between bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) and citron (Citrus medica). The distribution area is primarily limited to southern Italy, but is increasingly expanding to climatically similar areas on the Mediterranean. The evergreen plant reaches heights of up to four meters. The white, fragrant flowers open in early spring. The pear-shaped, green to yellow fruits are harvested between November and March.
